Silver Spring Township is accepting applications for Camp Leaders to work at an 8-Week Summer Camp Program held at Silver Spring Elementary School (Cumberland Valley School District), Monday through Friday starting June 11 and ending August 3, 2012. The position begins with an orientation on Friday, June 8th. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. This is a part-time seasonal position requiring at least 37.5 hours each week. Description:
Wildlands Conservancy is currently seeking River Safety Guides to assist with our Bike & Boat Program. This program involves canoeing non-whitewater stretches of the Lehigh River through the Lehigh Valley and bicycling along the Lehigh Navigation Canal Towpath (the D & L Trail). Trips are educational in nature; our program uses the River corridor to educate schools, other private groups, and the general public about river ecology and history themed concepts. Our programs runs from late April to October with our busiest months being May, June and July. *Internships Available*

Essential Functions of the Position:
• Work on a seasonal, part-time, as needed basis with an emphases on weekends;
• Safety guidance and professional leadership on Bike & Boat trips;
• Assist with education components and lessons;
• Oversee equipment use related to programming and perform routine and as-needed maintenance to bikes, canoes, trailers, PFD’s, paddles, etc.;
• Conduct safety presentations and demonstrations as needed;
• Interact with students, teachers, and general public in a responsible, friendly, and professional manner;
• Work together with the program team, including a trip leader, other paid guides, river safety volunteers, and full-time Wildlands Conservancy staff;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Degree in a related field or currently seeking a degree in a related field preferred;
• Preference given to candidates with previous experience as a river guide and/or with additional relevant trainings or certifications (lifeguard, Wilderness First-Aid/ First Responder, water rescue trainings, etc.);

• Knowledge and experience with recreational aquatic activities such as canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing;
• Knowledge of educational opportunities as they relate to our program including history, geology, biology, and ecology of the Lehigh River and surrounding area;
• First Aid/CPR Certifications (or willingness to obtain) required;
• PA child Abuse and FBI clearances by the start of the season required;
• Must attend all Wildlands Conservancy orienteering and program training sessions;
• Must be available to start weekends during late April and all days by mid-May;

Working Conditions:
Our Bike & Boat Programs go rain or shine as long as conditions are safe. Successful candidates can expect to work outside, 4-10 hour days and should be aware that there is a possibility of trips during inclement weather. Trip occurrence is inconsistent at times; our busiest seasons are during May and June. There is significant weekend work, sometimes exclusively during the summer months. Candidates must be aware that this is a part-time, as needed position and hours will fluctuate.

The Outdoor Program Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing council wide programs with an emphasis on an 8-week Summer Sleep Away Camp. The coordinator will serve as on onsite camp director during the summer months.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans/assists with designing, developing and directing all functions of the summer camp program; including troop adventure camp and family camp weekends
  • Assist in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategies to increase overall usage of council camps.
  • Responsible for supervision of other special outdoor programs as they develop.

  • Ensure that the council’s risk management plan and ACA guidelines are followed for all program operations and ensures compliance with all safety standards.
  • Travel throughout the council to meet with members and collaborate with diverse community groups; and represent the council in the community.

Join our Outdoor Education team at YMCA Camp Mason, located on 650 wooded acres just adjacent to the pristine Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Northwest New Jersey. Camp Mason seeks individuals for hands-on, field positions that directly involve teaching and leading groups of students in outdoor, environmental and recreational activities. Naturalists should expect full-time schedules that include weekends and/or evenings for night hikes and special programs. Silver Spring Township Fall Internship (posted February 6, 2012)

Recreation Intern – Part time (posted January 19, 2012)

Latrobe-Unity Parks & Recreation, www.latroberecreation.org, is seeking candidates for Summer and Fall internships. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in youth sports and recreation programming. Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Recreation Intern will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
~ Supervision and operations of assigned program areas (Youth Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, Men’s Basketball, Dek Hockey,
   Baseball, Special Events)
~ General office duties
~ Leadership in youth sports and family programming

Qualifications:
1. Must be pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Programming, Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field

2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

3. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities.
4. Must be highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.

This is a non-paid position and must be used for college credit or volunteer, practicum or internship hours. Depending upon qualifications, a small stipend may be available.
