Newtown Township is now accepting applications for a full-time Recreation Program Coordinator. This is a union position classified as an Administrative Assistant. Applicants should have at least a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Parks and Recreation. Job responsibilities will include: planning, promoting and supervising a variety of children’s recreation programs, training and supervising part time personnel, coordinating usage of township and school facilities, creating program brochures and flyers, and managing social media accounts. Program Coordinator assists the Manager of Education and Outreach in the development of special events, activities and public offerings throughout the York County Parks. The position is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, developing and implementing park and park co-sponsored special events/programs ranging from recreation, to heritage, to nature based programing. Program Coordinator serves as a liaison to Park Friends Groups (4) overseeing the scheduling of volunteers at three museums and organizing friend sponsored events. The Josiah White II is Pennsylvania's only mule drawn canal boat offering rides June - October. History comes alive as we tell the region's nationally significant story traveling a beautiful fully-watered stretch of the Lehigh Canal. The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor is looking for flexible, people-oriented staff with excellent interpersonal skills to work as Seasonal Crew Members. Crew members are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the canal boat ride, the care and handling of the mules (Hank & George), and the historical interpretation of the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, the Lehigh Canal and Hugh Moore Park. A variety of excursions including daily rides, dinner cruises, charters and lock rides are offered.

REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old. Experience handling and taking care of mules or horses helpful. Experience handling sailboats or other large boats desirable. Must have at least a high school diploma. Persons with education or experience in history, public speaking, or related abilities will be given preference. Must be able to lift at least 25lbs and to walk up to 6 miles a day. Must be able to swim. This post is subject to random drug testing per Coast Guard regulations.

HOURS: Normal work week will average 25-30 hours. Actual hours may vary. Staff persons in this position will generally work 5 days per week – Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00am-4:30pm. Crew Members must commit to work through the end of October.

Oversees Aquatics Director or Pool Manager and is ultimately responsible for the successful operations of the Borough’s pools. Coordinates, records, and maintains records for mandatory training and testing required for pool personnel.

Manages skatepark, dog park and other active recreation facilities owned or operated by Perkasie Borough.

Serves as editor for quarterly newsletter, The Perkasie Connection

Promotes programs via social media, newspapers, and other forms of advertising, to keep the community aware of program opportunities.

Prepares and recommends Park and Recreation budget and Menlo Aquatics Center budget to Borough Manager. Controls expenditures consistent with approved budget.

The Urban Outdoor Fellow will work in the City of Lancaster for a 24-month time period. The Fellow will be engaged in identifying the specific challenges faced by the local recreation providers in delivering outdoor programming to underrepresented/underserved populations. The Fellow will establish stakeholder connections through meetings with appropriate partners, identifying expertise in outdoor programming and opportunities while promoting and encouraging the sharing of resources to facilitate underrepresented, underserved urban children, youth and young adults.

Another aspect of the Fellow’s community outreach may include conducting focus groups and/or other avenues to engage with children, youth and young adults to determine their interests, needs and issues related to engaging with the outdoors, participation in existing programs, etc. Based on the results of this information gathering, the Fellow will work with the City and their partners to develop a strategic plan for the community and surrounding county. It is expected that gaps, roles and expansion of services related to the delivery of outdoor recreation programming and engagement will be defined.

The Urban Outdoor Fellow will also be responsible for training internal and external staff members on outdoor programming in a “train-the-trainer” structure. It is expected that there may be times when the Fellow will provide direct programming for children, youth and young adults in the community, but a primary focus will be on trainer-level education.
