The Borough of Perkasie is seeking a Director of Parks and Recreation. The director is responsible for the operation and management of the Borough’s 200+ acre park system and related facilities, including two municipal swimming pools and a skate park. The focus is on short and long range planning, project and program development, recreation, trails, special events, and implementation of capital projects. Creation and distribution of various recreation related publications. Supervisory experience to manage a seasonal staff of over 80 team members is necessary for this position.

The Director is also responsible for strategic communication within Perkasie Borough government as well as with outside organizations for the purposes of establishing the parks and recreation system as a key organization in the area. Must be able to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.

Excellent computer skills are necessary. Aquatics experience preferred, with Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or equivalent, or the ability to obtain after hire. Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management or a related field is required.

  3. Ability to interpret aerial photography, maps, and property surveys.
  4. Experience with use of power and hand tools; ability to operate safely and perform basic maintenance on tractors, mowers and chainsaws.
  5. Effective interpersonal communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, public agency staff, and private landowners.
  6. A willingness to work a varied work schedule, which will include a Wednesday to Sunday or Tuesday to Saturday work week and some holidays, and long hours under a variety of field conditions.
  7. A demonstrated ability at self-sufficiency and the ability to work along, unsupervised for extended periods of time.
  8. The ability and willingness to lead interpretive walks focused on natural history and land stewardship for Conservancy members and other organized groups.
  9. A passion for conservation and a dedication to the mission of the Brandywine Conservancy.

The Region Manager is responsible for the maintenance and operations of assigned parks, historic sites, trails and facilities within the region. The Region Manager position is responsible for overseeing all regional staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Responsible for planning, developing and managing a region in accordance with the division’s mission
• Responsible for planning, completing and tracking the region’s annual operating and capital budgets including procurement

• Must be able to manage multiple projects at any one time of varying scales and to shift priorities

1. Leads and manages Easement Monitoring and Preserve Management staff; oversees administration and enforcement of Brandywine Conservancy easements and stewardship of its preserves and fee-simple lands, including Penguin Court, Inc.; and, coordinates the Brandywine Conservancy new Landscape Leads Program of the Strategic Plan.

2. Bridges stewardship of Brandywine Conservancy lands with planning and management of eased properties, municipally-owned open space, and other large open space areas (HOAs, institutions, corporations, etc.). Utilizes and coordinates the expertise of Land Stewardship and Preserve.

The internship would involve assisting the Program Specialist with public relations, the Friends of the Trails program, trail events, trail service projects, volunteer engagement, and additional special projects. The Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority (CCCRA) exists 1) to create, enhance, and preserve recreation experiences in Cambria County and 2) to construct environmental remediation facilities in Cambria County and the surrounding region.
