Hours of Work:
The swimming pool is open to the public seven days per week from 11am to 8pm beginning Memorial Day and closing Labor Day. A varied work schedule is necessary to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. At least one manager will be on duty during all public use time and the qualified candidate will work at least 40 hours per week.

General Purpose:
The Assistant Pool Manager shall assist in the responsibility for managing the operation of the swimming pool and staff and will assume the duties of the Pool Manager in his/her absence.

The position entails some responsibility in hiring aquatic and snack bar staff. The pool manager also supervises, evaluates and is responsible for all seasonal employees and volunteers in regards to scheduling, managing them effectively and ensuring safety at all times.   • Manages all operations of Menlo Park Pool and Second Street baby pool.
  • Supervises and schedules employees and volunteers.
  • Holds daily meetings with lifeguards and assistant pool managers and weekly meetings with full staff during the season when pools are open, to insure that programs are being conducted in a safe manner and that all personnel are comfortable with their assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintains water quality and safety in coordination with public works employees.
  • Maintains grounds, pool equipment, bathhouse and snackbar.

  • Oversees the snack bar manager and works with snack bar manager to ensure all operations are in accordance with health safety, budget and management guidelines on a daily basis.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to effectively supervise seasonal employees.
  • Ability to manage a profitable snack bar operation in a safe, clean, and sanitary environment.
  • Ability to generate, organize, and supervise successful recreation programs.

INTERN FUNCTION:
To assist the Reading Recreation Commission staff in planning, organizing, promoting, supervising, running and evaluating recreation programs and special events that:
1) further the department’s mission;
2) satisfy the recreational needs of City of Reading residents;
3) adhere to departmental policies and procedures


SUPERVISION:
Interns will receive immediate supervision from the Reading Recreation Commission’s Executive Director and Program Supervisor. The Agency Supervisor will be designated from this list on a case-by-case basis.


INTERNSHIP GENERAL TASKS:
1) 30-35 hours/week will be accrued while assisting department staff as they organize, lead, set-up, clean-up and evaluate a broad range of special events held during our summer program June 10-August 9, 2013. Activities include, but will not be limited to:
• Summer program: 8 playground locations in an urban setting. Weekly themes with arts & crafts and athletic activities, field trips, educational programs and special events.
2) Additional Internship hours will be accrued doing administrative tasks in the Reading Recreation Commission Office as well as coordinating and running an inter-department program or activity during the internship.

Recreation Internship Position (posted January 15, 2013)

The Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium (DARC) is offering a summer internship opportunity for an individual working towards a degree in recreation and parks or equivalent and who is looking for an adventuresome summer experience! Hands-on experience in various aspects of community recreation including planning, evaluation, implementation of programs, trips, leagues, full day camps, half day playground programs, as well as day-to-day office duties and program registration. Intern will gain experience managing and supervising Coed Softball League games as one of the League Coordinators. Generally 40-45 hours per week, but we are willing to work with your schedule depending on internship requirements.
