The Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, seeks a dynamic, energetic and independent team of individuals to serve the nation’s best state park system, and urban communities across Pennsylvania. Help to build the department’s knowledge of and partnerships in up to ten cities across the state in the areas of outdoor recreation, education, bilingual resources and service learning. The Urban Outreach Team Member will design and conduct research (including surveys and focus groups) in urban communities, create partnership inventories, build relationships with community leaders, and make recommendations to the Bureau and department based on past and current research and partnership findings.
Americorps Benefits:
The team members will serve for one calendar year/1700 hours, beginning August 23, 2010, will receive a living stipend of $11,800 over the term, and are eligible for a $5,350 education award after the completion of service. Responsibilities:

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible programming and implementing all recreation/leisure activities. Responsible for assisting as youth programmer and office support with development and implementation of youth evening activities.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
1.Assist in the planning and coordination of a total Recreation Program for pre-K, pre-teens, teens and adults that will include competition, instruction and leisure activities for the various amenities in the Hideout.

DEPARTMENT: Recreation Department
PURPOSE: Provide leadership and supervision to part-time and volunteer sport, fitness and activities program staff in performance of work; continue to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate service delivery of youth sport and non-sport programs; ensure appropriate utilization of resources; respond to internal and external inquiries and complaints; and assess the need for maintenance, repair or replacement of equipment.

1) Assist the Director of Recreation in delivery of department services through new and continued development and implementation of youth sport and non-sport programs; including Day Camp and Playground programs.
2) Supervise part-time and volunteer sport and non-sport program staff; recruit, interview, recommend for hire and pay; schedule, provide activity specific orientation and training; recommend discipline and/or discharge.
3) Provide comprehensive sport and non-sport opportunities for all township youth residents; assess and evaluate effectiveness of service and future program needs through use of surveys, group meetings, and interaction with program participants; assist in determining viability and demand for youth sport and non-sport programs through research and networking; plan and organize sport and non-sport programs – e.g. determine facility availability, recommend and refine program policies, identify staff, schedule staff, inventory supplies and make recommendations for purchase; review safety issues and provide information to advertise programs.
4) Monitor youth sport and non-sport program implementation and delivery to ensure objectives and goals of the department are met; resolve problems or conflicts with staff, scheduling, facilities or participants; follow up on incident and accident reports.
6) Promote youth sport and non-sport program opportunities through written materials, media resources, community meetings and mailing lists. Provide information and contribute ideas for content and appearance of department and township promotional materials.
7) Provide recommendations for operating budget to Director of Recreation in the youth sport and non-sport administration areas; ensure proper control of expenditures and efficient use of materials, equipment, and labor; recommend the purchase of materials and supplies; assess youth sport and non-sport programs and activities for cost efficiency and effectiveness.
8) Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public; follow up with appropriate course of action; meet with representatives of the public, township, and agencies to discuss problems or questions regarding youth sport and non-sport programs, services and activities.
9) Ensure equipment, facilities and grounds associated with youth sports and non-sport are in satisfactory condition; check for safety hazards and recommend maintenance, repair, or replacement.
10) Coordinate youth sport and non-sport events, projects, and facility use with outside agencies – e.g. youth sports organizations, recreation departments, state and nationally recognized sport and fitness authorities.
11) Attend youth sport association meetings.
